3. Timer Training - Athletic.net
Athletic.net – Your Meet Management Command Center
Athletic.net is where meets start — and where your role as a timer begins.
As a timer, you’ll use Athletic.net to:
- Build the meet page: Set date, location, events, and deadlines
- Invite teams: Or confirm who’s already registered
- Set up events: Match the meet schedule exactly (event names & order)
- Communicate with coaches: Send reminders, entry info, or urgent updates
- Collect entries: Watch as teams submit athletes online
- Seed the meet: Once entries are closed, organize heats and flights
You’re responsible for making sure what’s on Athletic.net matches the real-world meet: no missing events, no mismatched names, no surprises.
This is the foundation of timing. Get it right here, and everything flows smoother on meet day.
📣 Coach Communication – Be Proactive, Be Clear
One of your most important roles is to reach out to coaches early to make sure you have the info, support, and clarity you need.
🕐 Communication Timeline
- Immediately after being assigned to a meet:
→ Look up the host school/coach info on Athletic.net
→ Send your initial intro email
→ Use Google maps to map your way to the track and finish line - 7–10 days before the meet:
→ Send an entry deadline reminder and confirm meet schedule with meet host
→ Check Participants tab to see if any teams are missing entries - After entries deadline closes:
→ Final update email with parking info, heat sheets, any weather/tech notes, volunteer request
❓ Questions to Ask the Host Coach
- Where should we drive on the track or park near the finish line?
- Is there access to power outlets or will we need generators?
- Can they provide volunteers for race-videos, field events tablets, or finish line support?
- Where is the coaches meeting, coach/team check-in, and awards?
- Can we get access to the press box, press power, or home display board inputs if needed?
